In what might have been an accidental moment of candid honesty presidential candidate Hillary Clinton admitted the country could not afford her million good ideas. It’s not that giving out billions of dollars to fight every perceived wrong is a bad idea or that people who are fiscally conservative don’t want to spend money on the poor, it’s just a bunch of really good billion dollar ideas add up.
Clinton recently floated the idea of issuing a $5,000 bond to each baby born in the United States to help pay for college and a first home, but it immediately inspired Republican ridicule and she quickly said she would not implement the proposal.
She defended that decision yesterday, saying she is focusing on proposals with more political support and she is not formally proposing anything she can’t fund without increasing the deficit: “I have a million ideas. The country can’t afford them all.”
Now that’s some honesty – I won’t vote for her not because I get bent out of shape over social issues but because I can’t afford all of her good ideas.
