Stds, especially, hsv2 which is genital herpes is very devastating and tramatic mentally to a person when you find out you have it. I use to know this girl who was a (friend of a friend) who was very open and honest about having it and how she contracted it. I use to think omg how nasty that disease was and my mental image of it was not pretty!! Recentally, i slept with someone ive known for years (an ex) and we started talking again and slept with each other one time that was all that it took (with a condom.) I trusted this person with my life but obviously he did not trust me with his personal information. He passed along his herpes to me and didnt tell me about it and still denies it!!!I have had an outbreak once and that is it in a whole year!!I imagined people who had it; always walking around with big ole nasty sores all the time and that is not the case. Hsv2 is a virus that is contracted sexually that is in your blood; the people who have it,will always have it until they find a cure. Sometimes the virus hides in your body,( this means its dormant) that’s why some have no symptoms and no outbreaks.The virus can reactivate; scientist do not know for sure what makes it stay dormant or why it reactivates. They say that stress, hormonal changes, periods etc can make it reactivate. They have found that anitviral meds such as valtrex, CAN possibly make the virus stay dormant. Normally causing fewer and less severe outbreaks. You can pass this disease without any known symptoms!!!!! I have a relationship now and was open and honest from the start. To the people who have it and are scared to date: I was scared too but i dated like normal and I can always tell if I am interested in to pursue within the first date usually. I just dated for a while to get to know the person and when it started getting serious-like to where emotions were getting involved I told him!! As hard as it is the weight off your shoulders will lift and if that person cares enough for you he will stay with you no matter what!! By me being open and honest about my disease he respected me for the courage it took to do that and said that was something we shared [the knowledge of it] that made him feel we had a bond. It is very hard to date with an incurable std. Because it almost feels like to me, that you have to date for your husband!! My boyfriend and i pratice safe sex and i am hsv2 postive and he is not; it is possible!! To all the people who have incurable stds: your love life isnt over just be open and honest keep your head up!! I just wanted to tell everybody who reads this i am sorry if any are offended or anything like that. I am not a expert of any sorts by all means i am a beautiful, smart, young country girl who happens to have hsv and just wanted to give some advice. Also, people you can try std dating website!! Don’t judge lest ye be judged. You people are so “shocked” to see celebs on the STD list. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. A condom doesn’t guarantee someone doesn’t get infected with HSV. Keep judging like your sh*t doesn’t stink and you too can be the 1 in 5 infected. PS….it’s not that bad after awhile. I’ve had some very meaningful relationships since being “infected”. If only Jessica Alba or Alyssa Milano could have given it to me…WOOHOO!!!

Reading this board is very interesting, from the stories shared, 2 the reaction about the celebrities, 2 the uninfomed 2 the misinformed. Please know the following, n if u don’t believe, please look it up – HSV1 is the same as HSV2 except n a different place on ur body. Besides a breakout (at which point it’s uh-duh! – there is currently only 1 test n it can yield false positives n false negatives bcuz it detects antibodies (like the HIV test) n not the actual disease. That test is not common n has 2 b requested (so never believe ppl when they tell u they bn tested “4 everything” unless u sit there w/them as they get their results). There is no male test 4 HPV (genital warts) n most ppl do not get warts. Women should always get their pap smears n some1 above was right, most ppl have no idea they have HPV n many fight it off w/out ever knowing w/n 2 yrs. U may also pass it along during the time u have it. They r working on an anal “pap smear” 4 men – wonder how many w/even agree 2 have that test done? Both of these diseases r terrible bcuz they cn be silent (asymptomatic) n most ppl think they’re fine after sexual encounter when they don’t end up burnin, itchin or hurting. The diseases r also bad bcuz condoms cannot n do not protect from them so even faithful condom wearers cn still receive n give these diseases. U cn’t look at some1 n tell, u can’t trust the 1st batch of tests n all cases – n u cn assume the same thing about a person who sleeps around as u can about some1 who has only had 1 partner (that u don’t know – don’t try 2 guess or do a formula). If u do have something – thanks 4 sharing ur story that is very scary n I still hope that our geniuses out there w/figure out a cure – maybe a medicine called 2nd Chance that u cn get if u got burnt the 1st time (I bet u’d b wayyy more careful w/ur restored health than u were the 1st time) but that w/satisfy all the judgemental ppl who think ppl deserve what they get so that u can’t get a Rx if u KEEP getting infected? Ur thoughts?
